The Supreme Court is expected to rule Tuesday on a challenge to California’s ban on same-sex marriage.
The high court will hear arguments in the case that challenges a 2008 law banning same-day same-occupancy licenses for gay couples.
It could be the final ruling on gay marriages nationwide, after a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year that upheld a similar California law.
Lawyers for the plaintiffs argue that the state constitution does not allow gay couples to marry in the state.
The case is being brought by two lesbian couples.
